Join an exclusive webinar on with the Honarable Dr. Frank Anothony, Guyana’s Minister of Health, to learn about opportunities in the country’s rapidly growing healthcare sector, organized in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Guyana and the U.S. Department of Commerce.

This session will provide insights into investment prospects, partnership pathways, procurement considerations, and the evolving landscape for U.S. healthcare organizations looking to engage in Guyana.

Why Guyana?

The next five years will see growing opportunities in Guyana for U.S. medical device and diagnostic equipment manufacturers, U.S. hospitals, and U.S. medical schools.  Guyana has enjoyed the world highest economic growth rate over the past few years thanks to the development of massive offshore oil and gas reserves.  Billions of dollars’ worth of oil revenues are already being injected into the economy each year.  The healthcare sector is growing rapidly to achieve the aim of establishing a world-class healthcare system in Guyana.  Guyana’s Ministry of Health and the University of Guyana School of Medicine are interested in exploring new partnerships with U.S. hospitals, medical schools and medical device and diagnostic equipment manufacturers.

Just a few years ago Guyana was one of the poorest countries in South America, but it has already come a long way.  The government has already made massive investments in the construction of six new regional hospitals, expanded access to medical education, launched an electronic medical record system, and procured more innovative equipment to enable a higher quality of care. This will all require the education and training of more doctors, nurses, and technicians who want to learn and follow global best practices.  The Ministry of Health already has established partnerships with Mount Sinai Hospital and Northwell Hospital.

Government procurement is a particularly ripe opportunity. By 2030, Guyana will be able to inject approximately U.S. $5 billion worth of oil revenues into Guyana’s national budget every year.  The 2025 national budget included U.S. $700 million to advance Guyana’s healthcare sector, and it has been used to purchase advanced U.S. medical diagnostic imaging equipment.  The healthcare budget is expected to grow another 10 – 20 percent every year.   The Ministry of Health and the University of Guyana School of Medicine have an ambitious vision. Their vision includes robotic surgery, non-invasive laparoscopic surgery capabilities, a new Medicines Regulatory Laboratory, a National Urological Rehabilitation Centre, a pediatric and maternal medicine specialty hospital, and a Centre of Excellence for Cancer Treatment.
